I’ve commuted for almost three years from St. Louis to Farmington and Ste. Genevieve. I listened to many audio books. But I also tried to find ways do work. One option is having a text-to-speech reader. It takes PDFs and other documents and reads them in a decent voice.
One such reader that is decent and free (with ads) or Premium (without ads for $14.99) is @Voice by Hyperionics Technology. I used it on my Pixel (android phone).

I don’t know if there is an iPhone option. I could not find one in the Apple store.
